Fathers Day is a day of celebration of dads. It is celebrated in many countries around the world. However the actual date varies from one country to another country. In United States and many other countries, Fathers Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. This time we have Fathers Day Celebrations on Sunday, June 15, 2008.
Fathers Day is a celebration of dads which was started in the earlier twentieth century to complement Mothers Day in celebrating fatherhood and parenting by males. It is a day of celebrations for fathers, step fathers, grand fathers who all fulfill fatherhood duties.
In the United States, for the first time, Fathers Day Celebration was held in 1908. One of the main forces behind the Fathers Day was Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd. Her father, who was a Civil War Veteran, was left to raise the children by himself on a farm in Washington State. During this time, Sonora realized her father’s contribution in raising the family single-handedly.
Fathers Day is celebrated in some form or another in almost every country around the world. However, the mode of celebrations is quite different from one country to another. When one goes to Korea, there is no celebration of Fathers Day or Mothers Day. They celebrate only Parents Day. The mode of celebration is buying presents for their parents. When one travels to Russia, it is known as 'Defender of the Fatherland Day'. One buys presents for their father. When one travels down to Denmark, Fathers Day is a public holiday in Denmark. This gives an ample opportunity to fathers to spend the whole day with their kids. In United States, Fathers Day is a big day.
As said, Fathers Day is a day of celebrations. Just think about your father. Try to recollect all the instances where your father has helped you, how much he has helped you, how much he has taught you and supported you. How much pains he would have taken to bring you to a level where you are safe and self dependant. Thank him for bringing you in this world.
Good Fathers are very difficult to be found. Life is not a cakewalk for a father. There are some famous quotes like:
- It is a wise father that knows his own child - William Shakespeare
- By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong - Charles Wadsworth.
As a mark of celebrations, send an e-Card that will make him feel good. E-Cards are a great way to show you care. Choose the one he likes. Send your father love and thanks with a lovely e-Card. There are many other alternatives like Gifts, Gift Certificates, Books, besides e-Cards.
The most important thing on this day is to remember your father and celebrate the gift of fatherhood. It would be quite ideal to visit him personally and tell him how much he means to you and give him something special. Fathers love is a great love.
